BLAST FROM THE PAST — ‘90s MUSIC FESTIVAL

A bold, nostalgia-fuelled concept celebrating the decade of colour, chaos, and pure fun.

The Brief

As a die-hard fan of ‘90s music and festival culture, I wanted to create a passion project that captured the unapologetic energy of the era — the bright colours, the bold patterns, and that “anything goes” attitude.
Blast From The Past is a concept festival designed to transport people straight back to the golden days of mixtapes, bucket hats, and neon everything. The challenge was to design a brand that connected with Millennials and Gen Xers who lived it, while also drawing in a new generation who wish they had.

The Goal

Develop a visual identity that felt authentically 90s yet fresh enough for today’s festival scene; something that could live across posters, merch, and digital platforms with equal punch. The brand needed to blend nostalgia and modern energy in a way that felt bold, youthful, and ready to part.

A yellow smiling face emoji with black eyes and a curved black mouth on a black background.
Smiley face with pink background wearing black sunglasses and a big smile.
A pink cartoon hand making a peace sign with two fingers up and thumb out, against a black background.
A cartoon-style pink hand making a peace sign with the index and middle fingers raised and the other fingers folded down.
A blue circular emoticon with a playful expression, winking eyes, a mischievous smile, and its tongue sticking out.

The Result

The final identity bursts with colour and character. The comic-style explosion logo, complete with a smiley face in a bucket hat, nods to the rave and hip-hop scenes that defined the decade. A vibrant palette of electric yellows, blues, and pinks captures the era’s joyful chaos, while playful illustrations of peace signs, lightning bolts, and acid faces amplify the fun.

The standout moment is the “Blast!” onomatopoeia at the heart of the design.
A cheeky, high-energy focal point that instantly takes you back to the dance
tent days.

From posters and wristbands to bucket hats and bumbags, every element radiates that retro festival magic like a visual love letter to the decade that never stopped dancing.
